JENNIFER BASTIAN : SUSTAIN/APART

CANAL presents this exhibition by Los Angeles artist Jennifer Bastian, who often creates surveys to augment her endless photographic archive. This exhibition exists in New York City, NY through postcard surveys sent to art-lovers we know, to be disseminated through their peer groups. Bastian explores shared notions of separation; giving a gift at the end of collective explorations of suffering. Bastian has created a secret digital file for participants to print at any scale. Those willing to share their survey answers with the artist, anonymously (or not,) will thus help her generate a new body of work to be exhibited in an upcoming exhibit at the Brand Library, in Los Angeles, CA.

We encourage you to participate in this cycle by answering the questions:
1. Has separation affected your life?  If so, in what way?
2. Is there any way to avoid physical/mental/emotional separation?
3. What have you learned from separation, whether chosen by you or imposed upon you?

To send your responses via email: sustainapart@yahoo.com
Include your return address/email address and you will receive a printable artwork JPEG (c) Jennifer Bastian, 2010, one printing per submission, please.
